Sunshine Corgi Rescue, Inc.

Sunshine Welsh Corgi Rescue began as part of the Sunshine Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club.  It continues to be a very active rescue program, with about 75 dogs re-homed each year.  Our efforts are concentrated within the state of Florida, where we interact with pet owners, humane societies, municipal shelters, other rescue groups and everyday Good Samaritans who care about sick, homeless, injured or abused animals.

We have over 30 volunteers and two dozen or so foster homes across the state.  Many have veterinarians in their area who offer discounted services to our rescued Corgis.  Without their help, many more dogs would likely be euthanized instead of finding new homes.

When we take in a Corgi, we have it evaluated for health and temperament, particularly if the history of the dog is unknown.  Then we attempt to match up the animal with an adoption applicant who seems most appropriate for that dog’s needs.  Most Corgis come to us as a result of owner “issues” (change in employment or health, divorce, allergies) and are quite adoptable.  Others sometimes need treatment or rehabilitation for injury, illness, abuse or neglect.

Our efforts are supported by adoption fees, individual donations and grants from other rescue organizations such as Corgi Aid.  Our directors also contribute their money AND time directly or through auctions and other activities.  We are also fortunate enough to have many fellow Corgi lovers to call on for advice, knowledge and other assistance when we find ourselves “in a pinch.”
